Machnamh Bród I

Machnamh is an old Irish concept that encompasses meditation, reflection, contemplation and thought. One year after the Black Lives Matter marches that took place around the world following the death of George Floyd, we examine and celebrate the intersections of communities within our own community and reflect on what we have done to challenge racism, misogyny, transphobia and ableism in the past 12 months and challenge ourselves to do more.

Machnamh Bród: A Series of Reflections is a three-part series of panel discussions with members of the LGBTQ+ community hosted by Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride. The events will be live-streamed on our Facebook & YouTube channels.

Wednesday, June 2nd at 7 pm
Machnamh Bród I
Hosted by: Christelle Gebhardt (Dublin Pride)
The first panel looks at issues at the forefront of our collective consciousness, such as the experience of LGBTQ+ immigrants who now call Ireland their home and the various challenges they face, including racism and xenophobia, as well as the experience of transgender people. We will be joined by Dil Wickremasinghe (Insight Matters), Lilith Ferreyra-Carroll (TENI – Transgender Equality Network Ireland) and artist and activist Pradeep Mahadeshwar.

Thursday, June 3rd at 7 pm
Machnamh Bród II
Hosted by: Jed Dowling (Dublin Pride)
On Thursday, we’ll focus on agism and ableism as less prominent issues within the LGBTQ+ community. Joining us are Isolde Ó Brolcháin Carmody and Maureen McGovern from Full Spectrum Ireland, Brendan Searson and Ciarán McKinney (Age & Opportunity).

Friday, June 4th at 7 pm
Machnamh Bród III
Hosted by: Jamie Kenny (Dublin Pride)
For our last panel, we’ll be joined once again by artist and activist Pradeep Mahadeshwar, Noah Halpin (TENI – Transgender Equality Network Ireland) and drag queen and HIV activist Veda Lady to discuss sexual discrimination within the LGBTQ+ community.

The event is finished.
