SUMMARY:Living Canvas at IMMA 'laying fire' by Jessica Lauren Elizabeth Taylor
DESCRIPTION:laying fire (2023) \n\n\n\nHD video\, colour\, sound; 16:23 minutes \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJessica Lauren Elizabeth Taylor\, laying fire (2023). Film still courtesy the artist. \n\n\n\nPlease note: The film contains language that some viewers may feel is unsuitable for young children. \n\n\n\nlaying fire by Jessica Lauren Elizabeth Taylor is an experimental memory work on intimacy. Using real life portraits of queer Black Norwegian femmes\, the film explores revolutionary ways of being in partnership with our beloveds and ourselves. The film questions societal expectations of gender and sexuality and how to interrogate these expectations through a queer Black lens. \n\n\n\nThe initiative to archive narratives about queer Afro-Norwegian in the Nordics arose from questions about the politics of intimacy. Queer intimacy in all its forms is politicised in many societies around the world\, from over 200 anti-LGBT bills filed in the United States in 2022 to more than 60 countries across the globe with national laws criminalising same sex relations. Images of queer Black intimacy are rarely shown in a positive\, stable and affirming light\, where stories from these intersecting communities are rarely amplified in mainstream media. laying fire proposes a rebuke to the policing and erasure of queer Black intimacy.

SUMMARY:Queer Death Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Queer Death Cafe – A Chat with Strangers \n\n\n\nDeath and dying aren’t often talked about\, but they touch us all. Following a two successful LGBTQIA+ Death Cafe LGBT Ireland\, Irish Hospice Foundation and All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care wish to invite you to again have a Chat with Strangers so you can start thinking ahead and reflect on what death\, dying and loss means to you. \n\n\n\nTalking about these issues with our friends\, partners and loved ones can be difficult\, but by taking the time to have these conversations when we are at ease and are not in crisis or under pressure\, we can make the final stages of life easier to live through. \n\n\n\nNobody should ever feel the need to hide something important about who they are. This LGBTQIA+ focused death cafe invites the LGBTQIA+ community and allies alike to share our experiences and discuss any and all subjects around this universal life experience. \n\n\n\nNo individual member of this community is defined by their membership in it. Sexual orientation and gender identity is just one aspect of the whole person. However\, LGBTQ+ have often lived lives filled with unique challenges and blessings\, experiencing a history of oppression and struggling for acceptance and respect which can lead to both resilience and grievance. \n\n\n\nWe hope these conversations will help you to acknowledge that dying and death are part of life\, recognise that talking about death doesn’t bring it closer\, but it can help us plan for life and choose the right time and place to talk with our loved ones. Do you have a will ready? Do you know where you would like to receive care at end of life? Have you thought about body and organ donations? Let’s chat about these things together. \n\n\n\nThis project is supported by the LGBTI+ Community Services Fund 2023 \n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS
