We Are Family, are we?
Three LGBT asylum seekers in Direct Provision in Ireland will share their personal experiences of the issues and challenges they face. A practical perspective will be provided by the Irish Refugee Council who provide direct support to people in the Irish asylum system and living in Direct Provision.
This will be a fascinating, perhaps disturbing presentation into a side of life in Ireland rarely spoken about.
Direct provision centres are dispersed around Ireland, many far away from the big cities which provide the few beacons of LGBT visibility, activity and community event for Ireland’s own LGBT citizens.
LGBT asylum seekers can experience a new type of closet in these centres as will be outlined by our speakers who are in the system currently.
The discussion will be moderated by LGBT Ireland. The Community Foundation for Ireland will also briefly reference their vital grant-making in this space also.
